This is the Tale of Duke Jupiter:

A Love Across Space and Time

There was a time when Duke Jupiter thought they were alone in the universe. Surrounded by treasured companions, but without anyone who felt the world like they felt the world. They heard tell of another Duke Jupiter, someone like them, out there… somewhere…somewhen. Alas, they didn’t anticipate crossing paths.

Then a rare cosmic event occurred. An event that found these two Dukes in the same place, at the same time, in the same dimension. There was electricity, a sparkle across the universe, when they locked eyes. An inherent playfulness that warmed their souls. A magnetic pull towards one another that felt undeniable, even destined.

In other words, we met at a party.

But the magic rings true! Our paths truly did seem impossibly intertwined. We met in 2016 in Bellingham, WA, and despite sharing a large mix of friends, we had never met. DeeDee will tell you that she will never forget the first moment she saw Devin. She was standing in the kitchen when he came into view. Devin had mischievously put on every piece of jewelry and every pair of sunglasses that the hostess had hanging in the bathroom. He caught her eye with a sly smile. Catching onto his childish antics, DeeDee couldn’t help but smile back. And so it began.

They started talking, knee to knee, and were both in awe with how compatible they seemed. As Devin will say, when you find someone whose weirdness is compatible with yours, you join them! Once he heard that DeeDee’s favorite movie was The Jerk, he was all in.

As they spoke, as if they needed further convincing, they stumbled upon a shared gem. Devin asked DeeDee if she was involved in any local video projects, as many of their friends were budding writers and directors. DeeDee answered that she had only had one role, that of Duke Jupiter, a romantic space explorer in a friend’s short film about the existence of love in a universe so big.

Devin’s reply came quickly and unexpectedly, “But I’M Duke Jupiter,” to which, DeeDee replied, “No, I’M Duke Jupiter.” They went back and forth like this for a while before they discovered the root of their shared identity. Many years prior, their friend wrote a short space themed action flick in which Devin played the role of the zany Duke Jupiter. Much later Devin heard tell that his friend had reimagined this role in an equally spaced themed film about love. He declared that this other Duke Jupiter must be his nemesis. But in true “enemies to lovers” storytelling, they were never rivals. For she was his twin star. And he was hers. And they were overjoyed to have met again in this lifetime and couldn’t wait to meet up again in the next.

After nearly nine years of building a life together we’ve decided to celebrate our love by getting married. We continue to find things we love about one another and are still in awe of how much we have in common. We are both therapists, DeeDee is a mental health therapist and Devin is a behavioral therapist. We love helping others and we benefit from one another's understanding and expertise. We're just out here, changing the world, hand in hand. Twin stars indeed.
